Beautification Community-Wide Goal

# Plant 250 Plants or Trees

“Plant a seed for the next 250 years.”

250 plants or trees

### This is a Community-Wide Goal

Every participant's contributions count toward one shared target of **250 plants or trees**. When you log progress, it adds to the community total — not just your own. Together, we can reach this goal!

## About This Challenge

Planting is one of the most hopeful acts a person can perform. You put something fragile and full of potential into the ground — and then you trust. You trust the soil, the rain, the sun, and the slow passage of time to do their work. In America's 250th year, that act of hope and trust feels particularly right. Help beautify Snowflake and Taylor by planting 250 plants, flowers, shrubs, or trees and contributing something that will outlast the summer.

Plant in your own yard. Donate seedlings to neighbors who might not be able to plant themselves. Join a community planting event if one is organized. Start a vegetable garden and feed your family from your own soil. Every plant counts — annuals, perennials, native shrubs, fruit trees, vegetable seedlings, or transplants. The only requirement is that you put them in the ground with care.

Native Arizona plants are hardy, water-efficient, and beautiful — and they're adapted to this climate in ways that non-native plants are not. Ask your local nursery for recommendations. Your plants will reward you generously if you choose wisely, and in doing so, you'll help make our towns a little more beautiful for the next 250 years.

## How To Complete It

1. 1

Choose what you'd like to plant — annuals for instant color, perennials that return year after year, native shrubs for low-maintenance beauty, fruit trees for food, or vegetable seedlings for a kitchen garden.
2. 2

Visit a local nursery and ask for expert advice on drought-tolerant plants suited to the high desert environment of Snowflake and Taylor. Tell them your goals and your water situation.
3. 3

Prepare your soil before planting — loosen it, amend it with compost if needed, and ensure proper drainage. Good soil preparation is the foundation of healthy plants.
4. 4

Plant with care, water deeply at planting time, and establish a consistent watering schedule appropriate to each plant's needs. Count each plant or tree as it goes in the ground.
5. 5

Log your total here and share a planting photo with #SnowflakeTaylor250 — show off your growing green spaces.

### Tips for Success

- ★ Ask your nursery specifically about native Arizona plants — they require significantly less water and are naturally adapted to the local climate and soil conditions.
- ★ Summer planting requires extra watering attention. Spring and early fall are gentler planting seasons if you want to start some plants for the cooler months.
- ★ Vegetable seedlings absolutely count toward your 250 total. A small kitchen garden can easily add 30–50 plants and reward you with fresh produce all summer.
- ★ Share extra seedlings you've started from seed with neighbors — spreading plants multiplies the community beautification impact well beyond your own yard.
- ★ Mulch around newly planted shrubs and trees to retain soil moisture and reduce watering frequency — especially important in Arizona summers.
