 Civic Engagement Community-Wide Goal

# Write 250 Letters to Military

“They serve for us. Let's write for them.”

 250 letters

### This is a Community-Wide Goal

Every participant's contributions count toward one shared target of **250 letters**. When you log progress, it adds to the community total — not just your own. Together, we can reach this goal!

## About This Challenge

Somewhere right now — in a forward operating base, on a ship at sea, in a barracks thousands of miles from home — a young man or woman is serving in the United States military. They are missing small-town life. They are missing their families. They are missing the ordinary rhythms of the places they came from. A letter from a stranger back home, a community they've never met but are defending nonetheless, can mean the world to them in a way that's difficult to fully explain unless you've received one.

Join the Snowflake-Taylor community in writing 250 letters of gratitude to active-duty service members. Through programs like Operation Gratitude and A Million Thanks, your letters will be compiled and delivered to military personnel around the world — men and women who chose service, chose sacrifice, and chose to put on the uniform so the rest of us wouldn't have to. This is a small thing we can do in return.

You don't need to know a service member personally. You don't need to be a great writer. You need a piece of paper, a pen, and a few genuine words of appreciation. That's enough. That's more than enough. In this 250th year of American freedom, let the people who guard it know that we see them, we're grateful, and we haven't forgotten.

## How To Complete It

1. 1

Choose a letter-writing program from the resources listed below. Each program has slightly different guidelines — review their instructions before you begin.
2. 2

Write a sincere, personal, encouraging letter. Introduce yourself and mention where you're from. Tell them specifically why you're grateful for their service.
3. 3

Keep the letter positive, warm, and uplifting. Focus entirely on gratitude and encouragement — this is not the place for political commentary or current events.
4. 4

Address and send your letter through the program's specific instructions. Some programs collect letters in batches; others accept them anytime.
5. 5

Log your letter(s) here to contribute to our community goal of 250 letters. Every single letter counts, and every one will reach someone who needs it.

### Tips for Success

- ★ Make your letter feel personal and place-specific — mention something unique and warm about Snowflake or Taylor. Let them picture the hometown you're writing from.
- ★ Avoid political topics entirely. Keep the focus squarely on gratitude, encouragement, and the human connection between a citizen and someone serving on their behalf.
- ★ Organize a letter-writing evening at your church, school, or community group — a single evening session can produce dozens of letters and becomes a meaningful shared experience.
- ★ If the program allows it, include a small photo of your family, your home, or your town. A visual connection to home is especially meaningful.
- ★ Children's letters are among the most treasured by service members. Encourage your kids to write in their own words and draw a picture if they'd like.

Community Goal

250

letters

This is a community goal. If 50 families each write 5 letters we hit 250. Every letter is a lifeline of gratitude.
