## About This Challenge

America's story is not a single story — it is millions of family stories woven together into something extraordinary. In the year we celebrate 250 years of this nation's life, there is no better time to trace your own roots and discover how your family's journey intersects with the larger story of America. Did an ancestor fight in the Revolutionary War? Cross the plains as a pioneer settler? Arrive through Ellis Island with a suitcase and a dream? Whatever your heritage, it is part of the fabric of this nation's long history.

You may be surprised by what you find. Genealogy research has a way of pulling you deeper than you expected — one discovery leads to another, one name unlocks a record, one record reveals a photograph. The Snowflake Heritage Foundation is an excellent local starting point, particularly for families with pioneer roots in this community. And FamilySearch.org, maintained by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and free to everyone, is the largest genealogy database in the world.

Your family's history belongs to you. In this anniversary year, take some time to find it, record it, and share it with the next generation — so they know whose shoulders they stand on and what it cost to build the life they inherit.

## How To Complete It

1. 1

Start with what you already know — write down the full names, birthplaces, and birth years of your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. This is your foundation.
2. 2

Create a free account at FamilySearch.org, the largest free genealogy database in the world. Search for your ancestors and connect them to existing trees.
3. 3

Look specifically for connections to the Revolutionary War era — ancestors who may have served, witnessed, or lived through the founding of the nation in 1776.
4. 4

Visit or contact the Snowflake Heritage Foundation for local family history resources, pioneer records, and research assistance unique to this community.
5. 5

Log your discovery here and share what you found — an ancestor's name, a surprising connection, or a story that moved you — using #SnowflakeTaylor250.

### Tips for Success

- ★ FamilySearch.org is completely free and contains billions of records including census data, vital records, military records, and immigration documents going back centuries.
- ★ Even going back just one or two generations can yield fascinating stories — immigration journeys, wartime service, and pioneer hardships that shaped who you are.
- ★ Talk to your oldest living relatives as soon as possible and record what they remember. Oral history is irreplaceable, and it disappears when people do.
- ★ Snowflake was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1878 — the Heritage Foundation has extensive local records for families with roots in this community going back to the settlement era.
- ★ The DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) can help you determine if you qualify as a descendant of a Revolutionary War patriot — a connection that ties your family directly to 1776.
