# Dejunk 250 Items

## About This Challenge

A lighter home is a lighter heart. Most of us are carrying more than we need — closets packed with clothes we haven't worn in years, garages filled with equipment we never use, kitchen drawers overflowing with items whose purpose we've long forgotten. The weight of all that accumulated clutter is real, even when we don't consciously notice it.

The dejunking challenge invites you to go through your home — closets, garage, storage rooms, kitchen drawers, the attic, the basement, the junk room — and remove 250 items that no longer serve you. Donate what you can, because your castoffs are often exactly what someone else needs. Discard responsibly what cannot be donated. And be intentional about what you keep.

This is a challenge that pays dividends long after the summer ends. You'll live in a cleaner, calmer, more intentional space. The items you donate will find new life in the hands of people who need them. And you may find, as many people do, that clearing your physical space has an unexpected and powerful effect on your mental and emotional clarity too.

 

## How To Complete It

1. 1
    
    Pick a room or specific area to start — the garage, a spare bedroom, the kitchen, or a single overflowing closet. Starting small builds momentum.
2. 2
    
    Sort items into three clear piles as you go: Donate, Discard, and Keep. Be honest with yourself — sentimental attachment isn't the same as genuine need.
3. 3
    
    Count as you go. Each item that leaves your home permanently counts toward your 250 — whether donated, discarded, recycled, or given to a friend.
4. 4
    
    Load your donate pile into bags or boxes and take them to a local donation center listed below. Don't let the boxes sit in your trunk for weeks.

    Log your total here once you've cleared your 250 items. Share the liberation with &lt;strong&gt;#SnowflakeTaylor250&lt;/strong&gt;.
 
 

### Tips for Success

- ★ Apply the one-year rule: if you haven't used, worn, or needed an item in the past year, you almost certainly don't need it going forward.
- ★ Involve the whole family and assign each person their own zone to tackle. Make it a Saturday project with a reward at the end.
- ★ Many thrift stores offer free furniture and large item pickup — schedule a truck if you have sofas, appliances, or heavy items to donate.
- ★ Old clothes, books, toys, and kitchen items are consistently in highest demand at donation centers. These categories are your fastest wins.
- ★ If an item is broken and cannot be repaired, give yourself permission to discard it. Keeping broken things for eventual repair rarely leads to actual repair.
